How to Choose a Color Scheme for a Wedding that Feels Like You

When it comes to choosing the color scheme for your wedding, you and your fiancé may be a little hesitant since there are numerous tones, feels and options to choose from.

Picking the color scheme should be a fun task and actually one of the first ones during the planning process. This is a very important decision since you will plan the wedding's feel around it.

Your Personal Tastes

As we change over time, our tastes in color may change as well. The best bet is to pick three colors you like (three for the bride and three for the groom).

Then pick one color from each party always keeping in mind the aesthetics, this means making sure that the colors you pick pair well together. You don’t need to be an expert in art; a color wheel will definitely help you with this process.

Colors that are neighbors on the color wheel go well together since they are similar. Moreover, opposite colors go well together too, for example purple and yellow, lime green and pink or yellow and blue.

If you guys agree to use just one color for the whole wedding, then you can do different shades of the same color so it’s not that monotonous (shown in picture below).

Another piece of advice would be to go to your nearest hardware store and find color palettes in the paint section and play around with them. This is free and effective!

The Location

You can use the location as your inspiration for colors. If you are having a beach wedding then perhaps turquoise (ocean/sky) and orange (sunset) will complement the theme.

And the best part, turquoise and orange are opposites on the color wheel therefore, they do go well together.

Season

Seasons play an important role in colors as well. If you are having a fall wedding for example, tones of oranges and greens will go nicely as these colors resemble the leaves; grays and purples mixed with oranges will suit the season too.

If you are having a spring wedding, shades of pink, lilac and even yellow would go nicely as flowers start to bloom in this season.

Your Own Home

Most likely you will have colors you like inside your home. Take a look around your house and see what are the colors you mostly use throughout your home decor; this is a good sign that these colors suit your personality.

If these colors bring you tranquility and enjoyment, why not using them on your wedding day? Plus whatever accent decor you buy for your wedding, you can re-use in your own house afterwards.
