How Yoga Can Keep you Sane During Your Wedding Planning

It's always an amazing time of year just after the holidays where we feel the need to find a new beginning come the new year. This year you may want to better your life and even work on a new regimen in order to feel less stressed and become healthier.

 

As a bride to be, this is a great path to take since the closer your wedding approaches, the more stressed out you can become.

 Luckily, I had the opportunity to recently talk with the incredible Mary Ann Morgan-Fried who has 30 years experience in the health, fitness and nutrition industry. Mary Ann tells me that when she was planning her wedding, at times she was extremely stressed out!

 

Mary Ann said, "If I had Yoga in my life as a bride to be, I would have handled everything differently and not stress out between picking flowers, the cake, the guest list and so on!"

 

Like Mary Ann, many other brides suffer from stress when their big day is approaching. Thankfully, Mary Ann shared some tips with me that will help stressful brides overcome the anxiety they might be experiencing while waiting for their big day.

 "My number one tip for brides-to-be is to take a deep breath and commit to a meditation regimen as soon as possible. I know that some women are really busy taking care of other things and don’t have time to stick to a regimen, but give it a try!

 

Start with 5 minutes a day and you will start seeing results almost immediately; you will feel more relaxed and mentally energized and less stressed out about all what you have on your plate.

 

You can opt to meditate in the morning before starting your day or at night before you go to sleep. Pick a quit room in your house and simply sit for 5 minutes focusing on inhaling and exhaling. While inhaling you can choose to say: "I am" and when exhaling say: "peaceful".

 

If your mind drifts don’t stress or worry, simply refocus and concentrate on your breath repeating "I am" on the inhale and "peaceful" on the exhale. Gradually try to extend to 5 to 10 minutes then to 15 minutes a day.

 Meditation calms the nervous system and clears out the noise in our mind, yoga on the other hand, gives you the chance to access the spiritual through the physical.

 Yoga poses allow you attuned to the way you live your life! If you are a bride-to-be and have some free time, I totally encourage you to try it. I guarantee you that you will not only enjoy every part of your planning up to your BIG Day in a more calm way but you will also see improvements in other parts of your life"- Mary Ann.

 

As a wedding planner, I also suffer from some stress and I am very happy I stumbled upon Mary Ann and will give meditation and yoga a try!
