5 Tips for a Successful Outdoor Summer Wedding

Having an outdoor summer wedding is probably a dream for most outdoor lovers. 

 

When thinking of hosting your ideal wedding outside, you may be a little doubtful mainly because of how the weather can respond and also if some of your guests won't endure the heat.

 

From my own experience as a wedding planner,  I always make sure to remind couples that everyone has their preferences and you'll never be able to please all your guests with certain wedding decisions.

 

I say, if it's your dream to get married outdoors in the middle of summer, then just go for it!

 

Nevertheless, couples should be considerate of everyone's tastes,  and the tips I'll share with you will help you prepare ahead of time so that your wedding is a complete success.  

 

I'll (try to) guarantee that everyone will be happy, even the people that don't like the summer weather will feel appreciated that you thought of them.

 

1. REFRESHMENTS

A table displaying cold refreshments should be available at all times for the guests to help themselves.

You can offer lemonade, tea, sparkling and regular water that guests can grab at ease.  You can have a fresh plate of fruits and vegetables on ice for guests to enjoy as well.

 

2.SHELTER

If you are having a completely outdoor wedding, it's always good to think of a "Plan B location" for each segment of your wedding.  

 

For example; Think where the ceremony, cocktail hour and/or reception can take place in case it rains.   Its highly recommended to plan on having tents reserved for your date from vendors.

Even if it doesn't rain, tents work for shade and create a nice ambiance at times.  If you can afford portable air-conditioners, they will be ideal!  

 

If you only get a few, try to put them in the reception tent where people will spend the most time.

 

3. SUMMER GOODIES

Having a table with some summer goodies is a must!  A few ideas to consider can be sunscreen, a basket with insect repellent bracelets (no one wants to smell like bug spray), cold water, fans, individual portable misting fans, sunglasses, cold hand towels, etc. 

 

You can also put a small basket in the bathroom with some of these goodies.

4. TIME

Try not to start the wedding when the sun is extremely hot and dangerous. Peak sun intensity hours are usually from 10am -3pm or 11am - 4pm.  So the best bet is to start the celebration after 4pm.

5. SAVE THE DATES

"Save The Dates," are usually sent 4-5 months in advance and for a destination wedding 8-12 months in advance.  

I suggest sending your Save The Dates 8-12 months even if it's a local wedding.  Keep in mind that summer time is a very popular time for people to take vacations.

 

Follow these steps and you will have an amazing outdoor summer wedding that everyone will enjoy!
